Grain storage temperature and humidity conditions are critical. Grain should be stored at cool temperatures, between 55 and 70 degrees Fahrenheit. Grain that is too warm will germinate, which will result in lower quality and decreased storage life. Grain should be stored at low humidity levels, between 10 and 15 percent. Grain that is too humid will rot and develop mold. It’s essential to monitor the temperature and humidity of grain and watch for changing trends, on a regular basis, giving the manager the best chance to make a correction when a temperature or humidity change is occurring, preserving good quality in grain.
