Routine Temperature Monitoring and WHO Recommendations for Temperature Data Loggers

In order to maintain the quality of vaccines, it is essential to monitor the temperature of vaccines throughout the supply chain. Effective monitoring and recording can achieve the following purposes:

  1. Confirm that the storage temperature of the vaccine is within the acceptable range of the cold room and vaccine refrigerator: +2°C to +8°C, and the acceptable range of the cold room and vaccine refrigerator: -25°C to -15°C;

  2. Detect beyond the storage temperature range in order to take corrective measures;

  3. Detect that the transportation temperature is out of range so that corrective measures can be taken.

Well-kept records can be used to assess the quality of the vaccine supply chain, monitor the performance of cold chain equipment over time, and demonstrate compliance with good storage and distribution practices. In primary vaccine storage, the temperature needs to be continuously monitored; it is recommended to be used in small local stores and sanitary facilities. Regardless of the temperature monitoring device used, the temperature of large vaccine storage sites should continue to be manually recorded twice a day, 7 days a week, and the temperature of vaccine storage sites and sanitary facilities in smaller places should be manually recorded at least 5 days a week. Manually record the temperature twice a day to ensure that a staff member is responsible for monitoring the performance of the cold chain equipment and can quickly take action to solve the problem.

WHO recommends the use of temperature data loggers based on specific cold chain equipment applications and intended monitoring purposes. The WHO has established minimum technical and usability standards for these devices in terms of performance, quality and safety (PQS) specifications and verification protocols. It is precisely to meet these technical indicators and market needs that our Freshliance temperature data loggers are more and more commonly used!
