Temperature is an essential factor in the preservation of vegetables, and needs to be monitored regularly to avoid premature ripening or rotting. A temperature recorder plays an important role in this, and Fresh Tag 1 is an excellent choice.
Hygrometry
Hygrometry represents the water content in the gaseous state of the air inside the cold storage space. Although very important, this factor in the preservation of vegetables is often little monitored.
Storage space ventilation
Good ventilation ensures ideal temperature uniformity throughout the cold storage area.
Sanitary conditions in the storage area
The microbial environment can be a major source of contamination for vegetables, accelerating mold growth. Regular, meticulous maintenance of the storage space is therefore essential to limit any risk of contamination of stored products.
Legislation on cold storage of vegetables
The European Parliament's EC Regulation n°852/2004 came into force on 1 January 2006. Its aim is to define the general hygiene rules applicable to all foodstuffs, for all companies and at all stages of the cold chain. As far as vegetables are concerned, this regulation requires that they be stored in a cold storage area at a temperature of +4°C.
Explosion of e-commerce
The Nielsen Institute conducted a study in April 2020, at the height of the confinement period. This study found that the confinement resulted in a veritable explosion in e-commerce, particularly for drive-through and home deliveries. These sales accounted for over 10% of overall sales in some weeks, suggesting that they could remain above 8% in the future.
During the period of confinement, people favored short or local online channels. In fact, more than 80% of food e-commerce was carried out via the Drive systems now offered by many chains. We have seen a 150% increase in Drive sales of fresh produce, including a 159% increase for fresh vegetables.
A desire to radically change consumption patterns after confinement
The June 2020 study by the C-Ways marketing research institute is also noteworthy:
Ø 89% say they have adopted a more responsible lifestyle,
Ø 84% acknowledge that this period of confinement was conducive to questioning their lifestyles and consumption patterns,
Ø 65 % say they have adopted a lifestyle more suited to their desires and needs.
Now that the period of confinement is over, 53% say they wish to maintain a slower, more frugal lifestyle, and 35% wish to maintain the under-consumption habits acquired during confinement. In short, many French people now aspire to live by the adage "Consume less but consume better".
It is therefore essential to have refrigerated vegetable storage facilities and temperature-monitoring devices close to points of sale, in order to best meet rapidly growing customer demand.
Fresh Tag 1 Disposable temperature data logger is important to cold chain transportation for perishable products, especially food products. The non-breaking cold chain could guarantee food products maintain high quality and optimum shelf life. It is low-cost, easy to operate, and takes up little space. The built-in PDF file generation function can generate data reports in unmodifiable PDF format by plugging the logger into a PC through the USB2.0 interface.
