Cold chain temperature monitoring

Perishable products must be kept at a proper temperature throughout their journey from their point of origin to the delivery to a retailer or pharmacy. The logistics industry refers to this as the “cold chain”, which includes “reefers” (refrigerated containers) as well as warehouses, distribution centers and final storage or holding areas. Throughout the cold chain, the risk of failure is always present, there is always the possibility that a shipment could exceed permissible or safe temperature levels, even if only for a short period of time. 

For example, a truck may be stopped in the desert heat without power, causing the temperature inside the refrigerated container to rise. The power is then restored and the temperature inside the container falls back, but the product is damaged. Temperature monitoring is essential to avoid the damage in advance.
