Temperature and humidity monitoring about flowers

A flower or ornamental plant is a plant cultivated and marketed for decorative purposes for its aesthetic features, its leaves, its perfume, its stem...

Whenever we cut flowers in the field or in pots, we try to keep them alive, strong and colorful for as long as possible. To do this, most people put the flowers in the water, but this only delays their wilting by a couple of hours.

When it comes to marketing flowers, one of the biggest challenges for the floristic industry is preserving the flowers as they travel around the world. As soon as the flowers are cut from the plant, they start a natural decay process that spoils their aesthetic value and commercial potential. The slightest change in environmental conditions can damage the petals and diminish the flower's economic value. On the other hand, excessive cold or sudden temperature changes can also damage the flower.

Temperature monitoring is essential for flowers. Fresh Tag 10 TH is the ideal choice for transporting and storing flowers.

Optimum temperature for flower transport and storage

The optimum temperature for storing and transport flowers depends on the type of flower to keep. A temperature-optimized cold room can keep flowers fresh for up to two or three times longer than if they were stored at room temperature, extending their freshness in some species for up to 21 days.

The temperature of the flower storage room should be between 1 and 3°C for cut flowers. These flowers should be placed in a container with fresh, clean, bacteria-free water. This prevents the flowers from losing their petals and leaves.

For example, a flower or floral arrangement for a bridal bouquet at a room temperature of 30°C will age up to 40 times faster than one stored at 2°C.

Humidity, a fundamental aspect of flower preservation

Humidity is also an essential aspect of preserving ornamental flowers, as an environment with a humidity level between 80 and 95% is required. Moisture levels vary based on flower type. The petals of some flowers are difficult to dry out when the relative humidity in the room falls under 70%.

To better monitor flower temperature and humidity, a sensor is much in demand. Fresh Tag 10 TH features a large LCD screen for intuitive display. They can operate for up to 120 days. Settings can be configured using our free configuration software. Once the trip is over, by connecting this logger to the computer, PDF/CSV/PDF&CSV reports will be generated automatically without using the software.
