Temperature and humidity monitoring for Pineapple
Pineapple quality is easily affected by temperature and humidity. Please be advised that after 14 days of storage at temperatures below 7°C, these varieties will develop cold damage. At temperatures above 10°C, the crown leaves are more likely to crack. This can result in a less attractive appearance for the fruit and a reduction in its value. There is also an increased chance of fruit rot (black rot), which usually occurs in the upper part of the stem but can also occur in the crown. As fruit matures, it becomes less susceptible to cold damage.
It is essential that cargoes and containers be cooled prior to loading to ensure the integrity of the cold chain and prevent deterioration in fruit quality. Due to its high transpiration rate, the fruit is susceptible to severe shriveling at relative humidity below 85%. The presence of moisture on the fruit, such as seawater, condensation water, rain, or similar sources, can lead to accelerated spoilage.
