Optimal Transportation Temperature of Fresh Pears
Fresh pears are sensitive to temperature. The high temperature will lead to its decay, and excessive low temperature will cause chilling damage. Excessive temperature fluctuation is also harmful. Fresh Tag 1 single use USB temperature data logger will record the travel temperature of fresh pears, and generate reports at the destination, to ensure the whole transportation is under the proper temperature.
A pear is a mild, sweet fruit with a fibrous center. They are rich in essential antioxidants, plant compounds, and dietary fiber. Pears pack all these nutrients in a fat-free, cholesterol-free fruit that is around 100 calories. As part of a balanced, nutritious diet, consuming pears could support weight loss and reduce a person’s risk of cancer, diabetes, and heart disease. Thus, the benefits of this fruit have in turn driven its consumption, majorly across the United States. The increasing health consciousness and the increasing demand for organic fruits act as the major driving forces behind the growth of the fresh pears market.
Pears are very sensitive to temperature. The storage-life of ‘d’Anjou’ and ‘Bartlett’ pears has been reported to be 35 to 40% longer at -1°C than at 0°C. Most pears are stored at -1°C with RH of 90 to 95%. Intermediate temperatures of 2.5 to 10 °C are harmful to some pear cultivars. ‘Bartlett’ pears stored at this temperature have dry texture and inferior flavor. Winter pear varieties can be stored in CA at -1°C for up to 4 months (Bosc & Comice) or 6 months (Anjou) while maintaining their capacity to ripen and attain good flavour and texture. Summer pears, including William's Bon Chrétien and Comice, are extremely sensitive to high temperatures, and special effort should be made to maintain the cold-chain. Chilling damage in pears occurs as high as -2°C . Freezing injury is present in pears if the water-soaked part of the flesh of the fruit lies just beneath the skin while the rest of the pulp is particularly dry.
Keeping the nonbreaking cold chain logistics is the key to making pears fresh. Our Freshliance Fresh Tag 1 single use USB temperature data logger is specially designed for cold chain logistics. This USB temperature sensor can be used for pears cold chain temperature monitoring. Freshliance single use USB temperature data logger comes with a compact design to save space during transportation. You can place these temperature data loggers with your pears cargo in ships and trucks. Moreover, this data logger USB enjoys an IP67 high protection grade. A humid and moist environment cannot disturb the logger recording. Most importantly, this USB temperature sensor is equipped with red, green and yellow indicators, which can indicate its alarm, ok and fault status. After the trip the completed, you can tear off its plastic bag, and plug it into the computer. The report with graph and table will be automatically generated. This report will be the necessary evidence for the product owner and the cold chain carrier if the cold chain performance objection is required.
